In 2007 and 2008, Basketball as a Mission traveled to San Luis, Rio Colorado, Sonora, México. There they worked with a military sports organization called Grupo Militarizado Deportivo San Luis. In both 2007 and 2008, there were a total of about 35 campers. This camp was the first time many of the children had ever played basketball, and they learned quickly. Each camper received a ball, a t-shirt, and a pair of shorts. The organization distributed the athletic shoes as they saw necessary. We also brought a snack and water for the campers each day, hoping to help them get the protein needed for their daily activities along with other necessary nutrients.
